Black Rock Mountain State Park | Mountain City, Ga3085 Black Rock Mountain Parkway
Mountain City, Ga
It’s fall, people. Even people who “don’t get outside” are getting outside. Use this excuse to take your honey on an afternoon seasonal hike…one that you couldn’t otherwise do with the kids. I recommend Black Rock Mountain State Park because it is the highest state park in Georgia…far north near the North Carolina border. This means that your first taste of leaf change color will be here.
The trail that will best deliver on this adventure is the 7.2-mile Edmond Backcountry Trail, with streams, cascading waterfalls, and laurel-filled coves. If you want a slightly shorter hike, Atlanta Trails offers this 6-mile adventure in the same area.
There are also several shorter trails within the park, and Tallulah Gorge State Park, with its rim, swinging bridge, and gorge bottom hikes, is only 20 minutes away. If you need a break from hiking then try Foxfire Museum. For delicious food, you can’t beat the nearby Dillard House Restaurant. You can also camp at Black Rock Mountain, or take an evening in one of the cottages.
The only pictures I have are during summer (below.) I can’t wait to go back when the leaves change. If you go, let us know!

Disclosure: My family and I were hosted by Black Rock Mountain State Park earlier this year for another review on another website. This Date Night idea idea is in no way related to that gratis stay; I wasn’t asked to write about this or paid to do so. As always, if I didn’t think it was killer, I wouldn’t write about. #keepingitreal
