Dr Bombay’s Underwater Tea Party: High Tea in Candler Park

The moment I walked into Dr. Bombay’s, I thought I had been transported through a worm hole to the back streets of India. Old world decor, dark wood bookshelves overflowing with tomes, lanterns and (empty) birdcages. And the sweet aroma of gourmet tea.

I was visiting with my Mother in Law, for our annual “peace before the storm” time together, just before the holiday business begins.  We had High Tea (reservations required for this.) Our visit included a special table cloth, tea for two, clotted cream, finger sandwiches, and a beautiful tray of desserts.

Without reservations, you can still enjoy tea, desserts, and a series of munchies from the kitchen.  I highly recommend the Yerba Mate and quiche.

People next to us on the long wooden table were discussing politics, and behind us was a Dad with his daughter, about 10. They were discussing her Christmas wishlist. Beyond the kitchen, in the adjoining room, a babyshower was underway. The upside down parasols and continued stretches of dark bookcases were a lovely setting.

I probably will not bring my rowdy boys here for several years.  But for a special moment with your older (or more mellow) child, a date with your special someone, a girls getaway lunch, or a special event, this could not be the more perfect location!

BONUS: My favorite part? Their efforts within the community extend beyond borders. Their tea benefits impoverished young women in India.

  1. Once again, you have discovered a place perfect for me that i never knew was there. I have no kids but this blog still hits the mark from time to time even for adults.

    • Yeah Tracie! Glad you found us! I love Dr. Bombay’s. If I had no kids, I would take up room and board there 🙂
