We are HUGE fans of Dunwoody Nature Center. We adore the creek, the playground, the regular events…it’s the very definition of a ‘gem’ in Metro Atlanta. That’s why we are elated to share information about their inaugural Art in the Park event, cleverly dubbed Hoos in the Forest this year.
Here’s what you need to know
This event will feature the whimsical creations of artist Salley McInerney who uses naturally found materials to create approximately 20 “creatures” that will be on display throughout the trails and in the meadow of Dunwoody Park.
The opening reception is planned for Saturday, October 15th and will begin with a 10:00 a.m. artist’s talk, followed by a creature tour and reception lunch/beverages provided by Village Burger. Here’s the schedule:
10:00a-2:00p Creature Crawl—tour of the sculptures
10:00a Artist Salley McInerney talks and leads first tour
11:00a Docent Led Tour
11:00a-1:00p Free Poetry from Free Poems ATL http://www.freepoemsatl.org/
11:30a-12:30p Open Art Studio with the artist. Salley will facilitate a free workshop limited to 20 participants. This studio workshop is FREE but preregistration is required. 10 participants will create their own small “creature” and another 10 will create a “creature cabin” to take home.
12:00 – 2:00p Hourly Docent Led Tour
Can’t make the reception? No worries! The exhibit is open through November 15th.
When you visit, use the hashtag #hoosintheforest. You can also be able to vote on your favorite creature, either in person or through social media.
