Grocery Delivery: Atlanta Services Are An Excellent Way To Shop

Looking for a little extra time in your day or week? Grocery delivery services are gaining traction and with good reason. They’re incredibly convenient and can save you a couple of hours each week, by letting someone else do your shopping! Here are several services now offering pick up or grocery delivery. Atlanta will never do grocery shopping the same.

Amazon Fresh vs. Prime Now

Both Amazon Fresh and Amazon Prime Now offer same day home delivery of products to limited markets. Meaning, you’ll have to check online to see if they service your area. One or both service Atlanta proper and are quickly expanding to cover more of the suburbs. Prime Now is a free perk for existing Amazon Prime members, and provides a wide variety of goods for Atlanta home delivery, generally within 2 hours. The items may include restaurant foods, groceries, pet items and more.

Amazon Fresh

Amazon Fresh is a subscription service also available to Prime members, but includes an additional fee of $14.99 a month. “Fresh” applies only to grocery items, which are delivered in special, insulated bags that can be used multiple times. You have the option of scheduling your delivery date and time ahead to suit your schedule.

Prime Now

Overall, Prime Now seems to be the better deal at this time. It has a larger service area and no additional fees beyond regular Prime membership. Unfortunately, neither deliver alcohol yet to the Atlanta area. The company is working to expand Amazon Fresh offerings to more neighborhoods.

Kroger Clicklist

Kroger ClickList recently began offering delivery service in limited areas but until they start delivering in yours, the ClickList service can be handy to save time from busy moms and dads by cutting out time in store and providing convenient curbside pick up. Create a free Kroger account online, add items including fresh and frozen to your list. Schedule a pick up time and pick up at your store.

Items are kept frozen or refrigerated as needed until your arrival. Get your first 3 orders free, before incurring an approximate $5 service fee for subsequent orders.

If you’re in a delivery area, delivery prices will be shown at time of order. Age-restricted items are not available for delivery.

Shipt

While not officially affiliated with Kroger or Publix, Shipt is an alternative way to have groceries and other necessities delivered from your favorite local stores such as Kroger, Publix and now Costco. Choose from over 40,000 different items on their app and have them delivered to your home in as little as an hour.

Delivery rates vary from $5 to $35 (on top of membership), with free delivery on larger orders. 6 month subscriptions are $49 and annual subscriptions are $99. Sign up or send a gift subscription online. Great for new parents!

*Shipt is not allowed to deliver tobacco, lottery cards, prescription medication or propane tanks.

Instacart

Similar to Shipt, Instacart is not affiliated with any one retailer. They offer delivery from a variety of stores including Whole Foods. Publix, Costco, Petco, Sur la Table and more. Choose from a wide variety of products via the Instacart app, looks for exclusive specials and place an order to be delivered in as little as an hour.

Delivery charges are based on order size, time needed and demand. There is a flat 10% service fee applied to all orders. Sign up online with basic info like email, name, address and CC.

Walmart

Walmart Grocery offers free curbside pickup. Simply shop online, choose a convenient pick-up time and location and check out. Walmart will pick your items, bring them out to you and load them in your car. Easy Peasy!

Publix

Just last month Publix announced that it is starting to roll out a complete grocery shopping and pick up service to expand on their limited offerings of deli, bakery and other special department items. They have started curbside pick up in Florida with plans to offer it up in the Atlanta area soon. Keep your eyes on their website for details. Atlanta delivery is available through Instacart and Shipt.
