Petting Zoo Near Me North of Atlanta

Looking for local petting farms north of Atlanta? Here is a good list. Know any we missed? Leave us a comment.

1. Tanglewood Farm

171 Tanglewood Drive, Canton, GA 30115 | (770) 667-6464
Tanglewood Farms answers the question where is a fun animal farm near me that is just the right size for young children. Tanglewood Farms is an entire Western themed town of miniature farm animals, the perfect size for little ones. Plus, since this is a working farm, they do tours by appointment, so you (and the animals) won’t be overwhelmed. The tours are approximately 45 minutes to an hour, so there is plenty of time to warm up to the creatures and get some good photos. Reader Andrea Shubert said her children love the pygmy goats the best at Tanglewood Farm.

2. North Georgia Zoo

2912 Paradise Valley Road, Cleveland, GA 30528 | (706) 348-7279
The North Georgia Zoo has a wide variety of animals, and several ways to have a personal animal encounter. This is a great petting farm for an overnight adventure. I visited with the boy scouts as we were able to see, and touch lots of different animals. Watch out of the llamas, they can spit, but the camel’s nose is soft and the parakeets landed all over us, while the wolves were surprisingly docile puppies. The North Georgia Zoo also has several friendly animal encounters with more exotic animals like a sloth, kangaroo, or lemur. In the spring, get up close and personal with the petting zoo babies.

3. Chestatee Wildlife Preserve & Zoo

469 Old Dahlonega Hwy, Dahlonega, GA 30533 | (678) 859-6820
Book a private ‘small animal’ show with one of the zoo keepers and you could get the opportunity to hold a cockatoo, American alligator, ball python or corn snake (my oldest always wanted a corn snake), a hedgehog, bearded dragon and more. These encounters are approximately 45 minutes and do require reservations. You can also have breakfast with the big cats – but I would not expect to pet them.

4. Goats on a Roof

3026 US-441, Tiger, GA 30576 | (706) 782-2784
As you might expect from the name, this country store has goats on the roof. Feed the goats via ropes and pulleys, or let them come to you through one of the fences.

5. Petite Creek Farms

337 Cassville Rd, Cartersville, GA 30120 | (770) 386-8688
Located just a few miles from historic downtown Cartersville, Pettit Creek Farms is home to a menagerie of animals to rival a few zoos I have visited.  Unlike a traditional zoo however, owners Scott and June Allen have placed most of the animals from different parts of the globe in the same pastures.  A glance around any given pasture will show you heart-warming odd animal friends like a baby camel and her best friend, an old goat.  The farm is a place where you will actually meet animals instead of just observing them.  The Allen’s have hand-raised many of the animals from birth and are experts in their field.

6. Yellow River Game Ranch

4525 US-78, Lilburn, GA 30047 | (770) 972-6643
The game ranch is set on 24 acres and has more than 600 birds and animals indigenous to Georgia that you can feed and pet. Visitors can purchase food at the center (and the price will help center operations) or bring your own carrots, saltine or graham crackers. My boys had a BLAST feeding the animals and we had lots of laughs together. Get their early when animals are still hunger for the best experience. There is just something about feeding a petting animals that just never gets old.The Ranch is also famous as the home of General Beauregard Lee, the groundhog that predicts the beginning of spring, or the continuance of winter each year on Ground Hog Day. Visit the website for special dollar days too.

7. Stone Mountain Park

1000 Robert E Lee Blvd, Stone Mountain, GA 30083 | 800-401-2407
Sure Stone Mountain Park has the big granite carving, an awesome laser fireworks show, and the Crossroads attractions area, but did you know they also have an animal farm too? Yup. The farmyard is included in your daily Adventure pass. Not only can you pet the farm animals, but children can learn the role livestock played in early Georgia life. And oh by the way, the goats do tricks too.

North Georgia Zoo Parakeets

8. Zoo Atlanta

800 Cherokee Ave. S.E., Atlanta, GA 30315 | (404) 624-9453
Although most of the zoo animals at Zoo Atlanta are kept away from curious hangs, there are a few places where you can touch the animals. One is during the giraffe feedings. Stand eye-to-eye and let the tallest living land mammals nibble twigs from your hand. Zoo Atlanta also has the Parakeet Adventure. You likely won’t get to touch the birds, but you can feed them with sticks of seeds. Before promising anyone they can feed the animals, be sure to inquire if when and if feedings are happening during your visit. Zoo Atlanta also has a barnyard where you can pet and brush goats, and maybe a pig if you can catch them.

9. Georgia Aquarium

225 Baker St NW, Atlanta, GA 30313
So maybe this is a stretch for a petting zoo, but did you know you can touch some of the animals at the Georgia Aquarium? There is the stingray tank, as well as a touch tank at the beginning of the Coldwater Quest exhibit. Adults & children love to feel wet rubbery skin. Plus all the touch tanks are free with admission.

10. Yule Forest

3565 GA-155 N, Stockbridge, GA 30281 | (770) 954-9356
I think of Yule Forest in the fall for their pumpkin patch, but they also have a petting zoo that is open seasonally during the fall and holidays. Pet cows, goats, sheep, miniature horses, and even an emu! Plus my boys love to wear themselves out on the huge jumpy pillow.

11. Southern Belle Farm

1658 Turner Church Rd, McDonough, GA 30252 | (770) 288-2582
There is always a special event going on at the Southern Belle Farm, from spring berry picking, to a fall festival. In addition to my favorite scrumptious homemade strawberry ice cream, Southern Belle Farm also has Belle’s barn, home to chickens, donkeys, cows and calves, goats, horses and other farm animals.

12. Wild Animal Safari

1300 Oak Grove Rd, Pine Mountain, GA 31822 | (706) 663-8744
The main attraction here is a drive thru animal safari that will have you regaling friends for years to come. But in addition to that no-to-be-missed experience, they also have a great walk thru area that is more like a traditional zoo. The best part of the Wild Animal Safari is feeding the animals, and petting them as their slimy tongues search your hard for more food.

13. I-16 Chevron

26127 GA Highway 57 S, Metter, Georgia | (912) 681-2261
I found this unique and hidden petting zoo on fellow blogger Daddy Mojo’s site. Stop for a little gas on the way from Atlanta to the coast and take in the petting zoo. According to Daddy Mojo, you can purchase food to feed the animals inside the convenience store.

Mobile Petting Zoos

15. Little Red Barn Mobile Animal Farm

Calhoun, GA, (678) | 493-5860
Bet you didn’t know that unicorns were real and you can bring them to your next birthday party did you? The Unicorn Party is limited to 15 people and includes other mythical animals like a long-haired cow and a miniature horse. For larger groups, Little Red Barn has potbelly pigs, bunnies, roosters and more. All the animals are on leases, so children can get up close and personal at this mobile petting farm.

16. Cricket’s Mobile Petting Zoo

Kennesaw, GA 30152 | (770) 789-1422
Cricket’s Mobile Petting Zoo can bring the farm to you if you live in North and Central Georgia including the greater Metro Atlanta area. Interact with sheep, ducks, chickens, rabbits, pigs and more. Cricket generally brings between 20 and 25 furry and friendly animals. They also have pony rides and a trackless train

17. Wildlife Wonders

2912 Paradise Valley Road, Cleveland, GA 30528 | (706) 348-7279
Wildlife Wonders is the mobile petting zoo associated with the North Georgia Zoo. If you can’t make it to the Cleveland farm, have the zoo animals come to you.

18. Sam’s Path Petting Zoo
