8 Annoying Photo Problems SOLVED By Western Digital’s New My Cloud Home Personal Storage Solution

With smart phones and affordable cameras that make us all look like Nat Geo photographers, we have more photo and video files than ever…and tons of storage, sharing and accessibility issues to match.

Until now.

Do you identify with these typical photo and video problems? Guess what? There’s hope! We recently tried and reviewed Western Digital’s new My Cloud Home and were very pleased with how they solved our photo issues.

Think it could work for you, too? Enter for a chance to win your own easy-to-user personal storage solution below!

Problem #1: Sharing Photos/Videos

You want to share photos with friends and family – easily. Sure, you can put a picture or two on Facebook, but what about sharing an entire album? What about photos you don’t want on Facebook? What about sharing with people (Hello Grandma Vernice {waving}) that are not on Facebook?

Solution.

My Cloud Home allows you to easily share a single file or an entire folder with others using the native sharing options on your smart phone, or by sharing a link from your desktop (PC or Mac.)

Problem #2: Centralizing Photos/Videos

Your smart phone photos are stuck on your phone (and using up space.) Your old phone photos are stored somewhere on your computer.

And by the way, how do you transfer those over again? Because your phone is full…and your computer is getting full, too.

And what about those pictures from your camera? And suddenly you remember the adorable video that your spouse caught the other day of the kids…where is that now?

Solution.

The centralization of ALL photos on My Cloud Home is one of my favorite features. Not only is it possible…it’s EASY.

Imagine a world where all the photos and videos on your smart phone are automatically stored on a personal drive…you don’t even have to think about it. You don’t have to remember how to pull everything down, and you don’t have to worry about them taking up precious space on your computer.

Not only that, but you can also configure My Cloud Home to synch files from your spouse’s phone (and the kids, too.)

And guess where all these photos are stored? In the same place you put your camera photos! It’s easy and automatic…finally.

Another note: photos can easily be organized with folders, and searched in their new central location.

Problem #3: Accessing Photos/Videos

Not only do you want all your photos in one central space, but you want to get to them from anywhere, any time. You’re at your bestie’s house and want to show her pix of your new furniture…or you’re at Grandma’s house and want to show off that dance recital video. It’s 2017 – that seems like a no-brainer, right?

Solution.

You are easily able to access all your content while on the go through the My Cloud Home mobile app. From photos to video…anything you store is accessible as long as you have an Internet connection. Isn’t it time that you were able to access all those photos and videos that used to be stored on your computer?

Problem #4: Slow Video

You currently have to either a) save your video to your computer (where it’s not accessible from anywhere you roam) or b) save it to the Internet somewhere, where it has to be downloaded first in order to play at a speed that’s acceptable.

I mean, what’s the point of that? Do you really want to upload a video to the interwebs, only to have to download it later to watch it? Then remember to delete that copy…or forget why that copy is there and have to re-upload it (in vain) later? Nope – you’re just trying to watch a movie!

Solution.

With My Cloud Home, smooth video playback, anywhere, is not a dream…it’s reality. Play back is available via the mobile app or MyCloud.com. Bonus? You have the choice to optimize the video for

your system and screen. Isn’t that the way it should be?

Problem #5: Privacy

I know there are a few online photo storage apps out there. They fall short in several areas, but the one of most concern for our family is privacy. Do you have an issue storing all your personal photos and video (and other files) out on the Internet? In fact one photo storage company (whose name rhymes with Bugle) indicates in their TOS that they look through every image you upload as part of its automatic scan and there is no way to opt out!

Solution.

Western Digital’s solution is not an iCloud…it’s a MY Cloud. This device is a personal, private repository that plugs directly into your router in your house. No one is scanning your photos. They are not out on the interwebs for hackers and evil-doers to happen upon. And guess what else that means? There is no monthly or yearly fee to worry about as your storage needs grow, because this is YOUR device.

Problem #6: Speed

You’ve just come back from vacation, and it you easily took 500 great shots with your DSLR, and a few hundred more on your phone. With many other solutions, moving that number of photos over could take HOURS. And you have video, too? Forget about it!

And don’t get me started on the initial upload. True story: I wanted to use Dropbox to store some photos. After the initial selection, it told me that the upload would take several MONTHS. I’m not kidding.

Solution.

Remember, My Cloud Home is connected to your router. That means it’s fast. Super fast. In fact, when I first set this up, I was able to copy over almost ¾ T of data (that’s about 750K files…and yes, I have that many) in less than 2 hours. Who has months to wait around for files to upload?

Problem #7: Complicated Set Up

You’re looking for a photo solution that can solve all your problems. You think you’ve found one, so you bring it home only to discover that it takes a rocket surgeon to set up and configure it. FAIL. And even if they offer “free configuration support” you still have to worry about managing it, right? Don’t you want to be in control?

Solution.

The new My Cloud Home set up literally takes 3 steps and about 15 minutes. Anyone can do it! Step 1. Open the box and plug the device into the power outlet and into your router. Step 2. Create an account on your smartphone and let it auto discover your device. Step 3. Get the My Cloud app on your PC or Mac. Done!

If you have any (or all) of these photo problems then I highly recommend Western Digital’s My Cloud Home. It has transformed the way I manage and share photos in our house.
