SEA LIFE Aquarium Charlotte-Concord is located almost directly across from Great Wolf Lodge, in Concord Mills Mall in North Carolina. We stopped in for the first time on our last GWL excursion, and we were BLOWN AWAY! If you’re visiting Concord or Charlotte, NC, you’ve got to add this stop!
This aquarium is designed with kids in mind, and my boys adored it! We are going to make it a regular part of our GWL adventures!
Exhibits with kids in mind
Since most of my readers are familiar with the Georgia Aquarium, I want to point out that this aquarium is nothing like our mammoth marine attraction. Just like the Ga Aquarium, there is an aquarium tunnel, a touch-tank and exotic creatures, but SEA LIFE Aquarium is specifically designed for kids. 20 displays showcase thousands of sea animals, including a Reef Shark and (my kids’ favorite) a Giant Pacific Octopus! There are also clownfish, an eel and huge crabs! Each exhibit is close to the ground and easy for little eyes to enjoy, all without compromising the magnificence of the animals on display.
Interactive games make learning fun
When we picked up our tickets, the boys were given captains hats and a special notebook for exploring the aquarium. As you wind your way through a self-guided path, the booklet points out important things for kids to discover in each section. They also get to emboss a “stamp” in their notebook.
At the end of your tour through the aquarium, kids can explore the soft-play area, with a large climbing structure and coloring opportunities. When we visited, there was also a special Octonauts exhibit, so they boys got their picture taken with one of the characters.
Other ways to explore
If your kiddo is a sea-life lover, then be sure to check the calendar for special talks and feeding times. These kid-friendly talks include topics about sharks, stingrays and the giant octopus. You’ll aslo love visiting “feeding time” at Sting Ray Bay every day an 2pm, or octopus enrichment at 2:15 pm.
Finally, don’t miss the chance to go Behind the Scenes where you can see the food and prep part of the aquarium, and get a birds-eye view of the sharks and rays. It’s part of your admission ticket!
Disclosure: Thank you to Cabarrus County and Sea Life Aquarium Charlotte-Concord for the complimentary tickets. In did not impact our view..the whole family loves SEA LIFE and we can’t wait to come back!
