The family headed into Buckhead last weekend to check out The Painted Pin. Regularly an Over 21 upscale bar, that happens to include incredible bowling and other fun games…families are welcome before 5pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
Forget what you currently know about the average bowling experience. TPP is fancy, swanky, and lovely…even with kids. Nope, no cold plastic seats with a 1×1 square table for your 3-day old hotdog. Relax in oversized comfy leather sofas. Order cocktails and killer eats that come out on a large wooden coffee table. You won’t want to leave.
Bowling start at$35 an hour regardless of how many people are in your party…our family of four bowled an entire game in an hour. $8.75 a person for a living room atmosphere and our own wait staff? No brainer.
When you give the staff the names of the bowlers in your party, you can indicate which people need gutter guards. For us, the boys used the gutter guards and mom and dad did not (although I should have!) Love how the computer takes care of this for us! And no worries about shoes even though it’s only “family time” on the weekends….our two year old had no problem fitting into the smallest pair.
When your hour is up, grab your drink and head to the games section where everything is free. Try bocce ball, hoops, skee ball, skittles, ping-pong and more. I loved being able to play skee ball with the littles… showing them how to play, etc without having to worry about tokens and tickets and annoying things like that! Pub skittles is really fun, so be sure to look up the game before you come. It’s not too often that kids can throw a large wooden piece of wood …indoors…on purpose! They will love it.
Let’s talk food. The selections here are creative and fun…AND DELICIOUS! You can order while you are bowling like we did, or belly up to a table or at an open sitting area.
For appys, try the pin fries…the pesto aioli is unbeatable. For something more heavy, order the Meatball Queso Fundido. It was heavenly…served in a small cast iron skillet, to boot. Ground meatballs in a spicy red sauce, capped with melted cheese and served with corn chips for dipping.
For hearty selections, try the fried oyster slider or the braised pork tacos. The spicy chorizo pizza also looked amazing. Hubby and I tried to eat healthy, and went for a salad. They were huge. I ordered a dish with strawberries, feta and candied nuts…he went for the Asian chicken salad with shaved cabbage and wasabi peas.
For kids, pick the cheese or peperoni pizza, chicken fingers with fries or a cheeseburger with fries. Thumbs up from our guys!
We had a great time bringing the kids. It’s fun for a rainy weekend or when the Georgia heat becomes unbearable. But here’s the thing….I want to go back with just hubby! Every weekday and weekends after 5pm the place is jammin’ with the over 21 crowd. It’s the ideal place for a double date!
Here are a few photos I took of the kids playing…thanks to The Painted Pin for the additional photos.
